Never Mind, Mommy...You're Too Slow!!

Hannah is such a fun little 2 year old!! I was a little worried that we would go crazy this summer with no school, no dance class and not much going on, but we have had the best time!! I'm having fun with both girls, but Hannah and I get special one-on-one time every morning while Alice Anne is napping and we really have fun together! She helps me in the yard, helps me do house work, helps me cook, we do fun art projects and her new favorite thing to do is help me pick out my clothes for the day. She is really into everything "matching" and she wants to pick out my clothes to match hers, she wants to wear shoes that match mine, eat candy that matches her clothes, read books that match her clothes, drink out of cups that match, etc. (OCD??) Something really funny that she has just started doing is mimicking everything that I say. This morning there was a guy here that was going to clean some mortar off of our garage door. I was showing him where it was and Hannah was doing the same. She was saying, "see all of the white down on the bottom?" and then she'd look at him. Another worker came over yesterday while Alice Anne was sleeping and I told him that the baby was asleep and asked him to please be quiet when he was upstairs. Hannah said, "My baby sister's asleep so you need to be quiet." It's funny, but embarrassing at the same time. I am cherishing our time together because I know that we probably won't have many more, if any summers like this. Once she's 3, she'll be eligible for camps, VBS, and all sorts of things that will keep us plenty busy. But for now, we're just enjoying our time at home.

This morning I was really craving something sweet, so we made cupcakes. Hannah asked me who's birthday it was and I told her that it wasn't any one's birthday, that we were just making cupcakes for fun. She said, "yes it is, it is some one's birthday, mommy." She starts looking around and I guess the 1st thing that caught her eye was a tree out the window. She said, "Mommy, it's the tree's birthday! Happy Birthday, Tree!" And proceeded to sing the birthday song to the tree.

After we put the cupcakes in the oven, I started washing the dishes and Hannah said, "Come on mommy, lets get the sprinkles out." I told her that we'd get them out after we washed all of the dishes. She stood there for a minute and then said, "Never mind, Mommy...you're too slow!" I didn't pay much attention to what she meant by that until a few minutes later when I heard her yelling from the pantry, "Mommy, come get me down!" I ran in there and she had taken her chair into the pantry and figured out how to climb up all the cabinets (the one she was standing on was about 4 feet off the ground) and get to the sprinkles that are on the top of the spice rack which is about 6 feet off the ground!! Seriously, this girl is determined! After I grabbed my camera and took her picture (just like any good mom would do, right?!?!?), I gave her a little lecture about how dangerous that was ; )
She is very serious when it comes to decorating her cupcakes!
Hannah wanted to put her farm animals on top of our mini cake for Daddy, and thought it would be really funny to have a snake coming out of it. Laughing, she said, "Mommy, do you think daddy's going to be scared? I think he's going to say, 'Ahhhhh' when he sees it!!!" And was literally dying laughing at herself all morning. She can't wait to show him!!

Watermelon

A hot summer afternoon outside in Texas isn't complete without a BIG slice of watermelon! This was the best afternoon entertainment! I think watermelon is a permanent on my summer grocery list. They seriously sat there and ate watermelon for probably 45 minutes!!

Hannah ate 3 of these big slices. I told her she was going to turn into a watermelon. She looked at Alice Anne and then looked at me and said, "Mommy, does Ali Bali have a big watermelon in her tummy?"

Going to the Country Gonna Eat a Lot of Peaches

Just like the song says, we went to the country this morning and ate a lot of peaches at the orchard. It was a peaceful drive and the girls really enjoyed our little trip. Hannah had a lot of fun picking blackberries and putting some in her bucket, but most of them either went in her mouth or she fed them to Alice Anne.

I love these pictures of the 2 of them because it really captures how sweet they are to each other

As good as the fruit was, the ice cream was even better!!! Hannah opted for a peach and strawberry swirl ice cream cone and she was so funny to watch. She doesn't really get how to eat an ice cream cone..she wants to start at the bottom and just take a big bite out of the cone. Needless to say, we were all a big sticky mess when we left, but we had fun and that's all that counts!!

Alice Anne REALLY wanted her own ice cream cone. Maybe next summer! Hannah was good at sharing hers, though...
Hannah couldn't wait to get home and eat her peaches!!

Flowers and Water

While Alice Anne napped today, Hannah and I finish planting the flowers that we started over the weekend. Hannah loves helping in the yard, but doesn't like getting any dirt on her. And she always insists on wearing her Snow White shoes when we work outside.

This afternoon the girls played with the water table. Alice Anne especially loves it! She thinks it is so funny to splash the water in her face.

Goldfish and Golf Carts

We had such a fun family weekend!! The girls are always good, but they were extra good this weekend and Hannah was extra funny and made all of us laugh all weekend! Brett and Hannah talked about getting a goldfish ALL week last week. Saturday morning finally came and Hannah, Daddy and Wally were off to the pet store. If you know Brett, you know he doesn't skimp on anything...he's not just going to get a dinky little fish bowl. They came home with a mini fish tank, 4 fish, and a shaved dog!! Hannah thought Wally's haircut was so funny and has called him Silly Haircut Wally all weekend. I'll have to get a pic and post it. Wally doesn't mind it a bit, because he is nice and cool! Both of the girls LOVE their new fish. They want to sit and watch them all the time. Hannah named them Princess, Ballerina, Tutu and Dress-up!!
Saturday afternoon we all went to the Farmer's Market to get flowers and then we went to one of our favorite grease pits downtown. Alice Anne can eat french fries like I've never seen a girl eat them...she has no shame!!!
After church this morning, the girls came home and took early naps and then we spent the afternoon at the pool. Daddy even took us for a golf cart ride after swimming and the girls LOVED IT!!!

Rainy Birthday Party

For the last couple of weeks, Hannah wakes up every morning and asks for a cupcake for breakfast (aka blueberry muffin). The ONLY reason she wants a muffin is so that she can go get a candle and sing Happy Birthday to herself. She does this Every. Single. Morning. And every single morning I explain to her that it's not her birthday and she says, "Yes it is, Mommy." Whatever!!

This morning we took our "birthday party" out on the back porch to watch the rain. After breakfast, the girls just sat there sadly looking at their swing set, singing Rain, Rain, Go Away.

Backyard Water Park

The girls were in heaven with this little wading water pool. They both loved the little slide and riding on the shark and Alice Anne had a blast splashing and kicking in the water. We were literally out there all afternoon and they never got tired of it. I wish I had a picture of it, but Wally jumped right in the middle of the pool and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in the water as well. Hannah kept sliding and almost landed on him every time, but he wasn't going to move a muscle!
